The Republic Aviation P-47D Thunderbolt "Tarheel Hal" at the 2006 Wings Over Houston performing a flat pass at Ellington Field, Houston, Texas. This rare World War II Warbird features an armored cockpit with a bubble canopy on the D model, offering good visibility for the pilots. The P-47 was nicknamed the "Jug" owing to its appearance if stood on its nose, the P-47 was noted for its firepower, as well as its ability to resist battle damage and remain airworthy.
